Doctoral Consortium (DC)

Doctoral Consortium Chairs: Tilde Bekker (Technische Universiteit Eindhoven) & Paulo Blikstein (Northwestern University)

The Doctoral Consortium at IDC is intended to provide an opportunity for Ph.D. students to share and discuss their research with peers and panelists (faculty mentors). The Consortium will begin with a meal in the evening of the 10th June and this will be followed by an all day academic session on June 11th.

At the Consortium, students will give short presentations of their current progress and will have this work discussed by the participants and panelists. Subjects to be covered in the presentations will include: a statement of the problem and research question(s), literature review, theory development and/or experimental work, research methodology and preliminary findings, if any. In addition to the formal sharing the Consortium will include some brainstorming and informal discussion.

We anticipate inviting up to nine doctoral students but this will depend on the quality of the submissions, and the resources available. In the event that the number of suitable participants significantly exceeds the places available, preference will be given to those students that seem most likely to benefit from the event. Doctoral student participants will have their extended abstracts published in the conference proceedings and will be required to display a poster of their work during the main conference. Applicants who are selected will receive complimentary conference registration, and will be reimbursed for reasonable travel and accommodation.
